BNM Launches Malaysia's New Currency Series (4th Series)

Was at Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) @ Kuala Lumpur at about 2pm today to get my hands on the Malaysia's New Currency Series, 4th Series. The new currency was launched yesterday by Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Najib Razak. it will be available to the general public starting from 2nd quarter of 2012.

Anyway the queue was rather long when I arrived and it took me about an hour to get to the counter. According to the police on duty, there are crazy Malaysian who started to queue as early as 2am in the morning. BNM open its door since 9am in the morning. and by the time I leave at about 4.30pm, the queue is still getting longer.

With long queue like this, people could easily mistaken this for the iPhone 4 launch.

View of the Queue from another angle.

Alternative Investments @ Investor Expo 2010

Disclaimer: I'm merely writing about wine as an alternative form of investment with the help of information obtain online. I'd like to make it very clear that I'm NOT in anyway associated or endorsing Premium Liquid Assets Sdn Bhd. I'm not paid write this post. Please do your own research before investing at your own risk.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you heard of Alternative Investments?

Well traditionally when we speak about investments, people will tend to think about conventional investment option such as properties, stocks, futures, precious metal(Gold), bonds and Forex. That's what I usually thought so.

However my recent maiden visit to the Investor Expo 2010 held @ Kuala Lumpur, gives me a different perspective on variety of options available when it comes to investment. Read on to find out why.

What I'm about to share with you might not be totally new to you but it sure is new to me. The alternative investment in the form of liquid but mind you, it's not easy to liquidate when you are in need of cold hard cash.

This alternative investment option is actually Wine. Something most of us love to drink during special occasions or when there is something worth celebrating. I've been drinking wine for quite sometime now, most of the time during corporate functions, company events and sometimes with my acquaintances. I knew the rich and famous loves to drink and collect wine, in fact a lot of people buy wine as gifts these days, but little did I know that people actually invest in it and make a profit out of it.

If you are not from the ultra rich and elite Malaysian families, then this may probably be the first time you are reading about this because its still quite new to the Malaysian mass. So far the only company offering such investment option in Malaysia today is Premium Liquid Assets Sdn Bhd.

Premium Liquid Assets booth @ Investor Expo 2010

According to the company's website, it claims to be Asia's leading fine wine wholesaler with presents in Bordeaux(France), Malaysia, Singapore, China and Hong Kong. The company currently offers about 8 type of premium wines for investment, namely the Château Margaux 1986, Château Mouton Rothschild 1995, Château Haut Brion 1989, Château Margaux 1990, Château Mouton Rothschild 1995, Château La Mission Haut Brion 2000, Château Lafite Rothschild 2003, and Château Haut Brion 1989.

A picture of the wine storage in France.

Each investment has to be made in a minimum and multiple of 12 bottles of 75cl(Centiliters) wine which is equivalent to 1 case. If you are wondering how much it cost for a minimum investment in ringgit and sens, here are some example; 1 case of Château Mouton Rothschild 1995 is about €4,600 or RM18,596.45 while 1 case of Château Haut Brion 1989 cost roughly € 15,280 or RM1 772.55(€ 1 = RM4.04). Yes it's quite pricey but definitely a good option to invest as a form of hedging against conventional investment options such as properties and stock which are much more volatile and sensitive toward economic and political development around the globe.

This is how the case of 12 bottle looks like.

    Is money everything?

Do we live to eat or eat to live? you still need to eat to continue living, right? If you answer no, then you might as well start starving yourself to death. To live or to eat, you need money.

Life is wonderful, and the best thing you could ever do in life is live it to the fullest. So how do plan to life your life to the fullest? Here are some of the comment people usually give when being ask how they plan to live their life to the fullest:

    Travel around the world
    Have a nice family
Be with the person they love and care most
    Have a nice house

No matter what you plan to do, you still need money, the only difference is some people need more of it and some need less depending on your preferred lifestyle.

Some may say money is not everything. Well that may be true, but only to a certain extend because without money you cant have anything. Like it or not, human greed nature has turn this whole world into a big business conglomerate. In today's enterprising age, even water, human's most basic needs which was once a free commodity cost us a bomb when we consume it. Utility Company like Wessex Water (in the UK) and Puncak Niaga (in Selangor & Kuala Lumpur) earns millions of dollar/ringgit just by supplying water to household.

Well, some of you who are mischievous might say that you can still use water for free when you go to the hotel, shopping center and even at the waterfall. Well let's face reality, you cant be living in a hotel, shopping center or by the waterfall everyday right? Even if you stay at the hotel, the room rate actually includes the utility bill as well. So you cant denial that money is really something important(thought it may not be everything to some of you)

So the topic now is how do you value money? Do share your views, they is no right or wrong.

End of holiday, but ang pow is getting bigger

Today mark the last day of holiday for many of us as we will be returning to work tomorrow having the usual Monday blues. Dam the good time flies pass really fast. The past few days of Chinese New Year Celebration has been awesome, cause I've got the opportunity to meet up with lots of family members, relatives and friends. I also got lots of ang pow(which I will write a post on it in a day or two). Chinese New Year is an annual opportunity to meet people that are close at heart, earn some money from collecting ang pow(my parents will not agree to this), playing cards and mahjong(I dont play any of this though, just sit and watch) and some plesant surprise which I am looking forward in the coming week.

oh ya, I'll be getting a RM388 ang pow from DIGI as well (its sort of a employees performance bonus, rewarding me for getting the big deal. Refer to First major deal a success ). Will be looking forward to receive that big big ang pow. It will be my biggest ang pow ever. Besides that, DIGI has also announce a dividend of 59cent per share(which means RM590 for every old lot of share owned) just days before the Chinese New Year. This is the best Chinese New Year ever, because DIGI is giving me tons of moo-lah.

To those poor little soul like me who is gonna start working again tomorrow, make sure you get enough rest and get fully recharged. I can sense more money coming in, during the year of Golden Rat. Once again I would like to wish everyone Gong Xi Fa Chai.

got to run now, going for a Chinese New Year gathering at Daryl's House.

    Best dessert after reunion dinner.

    Short Talk:
I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Chinese community, Gong Xi Fa Cai, may the year of the rat brings you good health, wealth, happiness and prosperity.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

It's Chinese New Year eve. As usual, everyone rushes home to have reunion dinner with their family members. This is the time that I often look forward to simple because this is when I get to meet my cousins, aunties, and uncles and have a nice dinner together. This year's reunion dinner session comes with something extra, a special dessert in the form of ang pau(red packet containing cash). I received 7 ang pow's on new year eve, with a few of them containing cash worth 3 digit in value. This is a great start into the year of the rat, and I can already feel god of prosperity (Choy San Yeh) blessing me...

Photo of my dessert right after having my reunion dinner.

Money do grow on trees, and you can enjoy it too.

Today is a great day, a fantastic day indeed. Why so, cause money are growing on trees at a significantly high rate. To many who knows me, I've been investing in the equity market (layman term = stock market) for the past 3 years and have been making tremendous return of approximately 20% to over 300% in my various investment.

So how do trees grow money?
Well they don't literally grow on trees out of no where.

So how did I do it?

Well seeds are like our money, if you put it in box it doest grow into trees, like wise if we put out hard earn money into the bank either on a saving account or fix deposit, our money will not really grow.

    Why so?
Cause bank in Malaysia are offering a miserable low rate of 1% per annum(year) on a saving account and 3.7% in a 12 month Fix Deposit. Assuming that you put RM10k into the account for the past 12 month, you will only be getting a return of RM370. To me that very little cause the inflation rate is about 3.9%.

    So what are the alternatives?
Well there are many alternatives available, such as real estate, forex(currency), stocks, bonds, etc etc. Some may also consider starting a business which requires lots of capital. I prefer the stock markets over the many other option available because its one of the most highly liquid investment around.(For those non-accounting/business background, high liquidity in this sense mean it is highly easy to turn the investment into cash because the stock market is open 5 days a week and only close on public holidays)

There are many who say property are the best investment available that yield significant return over time. A double story house at Bandar Utama first phase cost only RM300k per unit about 10 years back is now worth a whooping RM700k plus. Yes its true that property is indeed a good investment over a long run, however it is ill liquid especially during times when the economies are bad. A property may be worth RM700k today but until its is sold for cash, the value is merely paper profit. Frankly speaking its not easy to get a buyer when you need to sell the property urgently for cash.

Another problem is the entry cost to invest in property are very high thus one needs to sufficient financial capability before embarking on such costly investment. Meanwhile with as little as RM500 ringgit(I personally recommend RM1000 to start with), one could begin investing in the stock market and make consistent return of 10% per annum.

Anyway it was great day because many of my investment shows better than expected return. Outperforming many analysis forecast, and most importantly many recommendation that i made to my friends yield significant return in just 3 to 4 months. To those that buy, I bet you are very happy now as you have yield at least 30% to 100% return during this period based on my recommendation. One of the most significant stock would be HELP International Corporation Bhd, a second board stock, was sold in the primary market during the IPO(Initial Public Offering) at the price of RM0.80 for each stock with a par value of RM0.50. Though I failed to purchase it during the initial public offering. I place a bold bid of RM1 during its first trading day and manage to secure some shares at RM0.88 per unit(few student of HELP and also my student manage to buy at this price to) on 22nd May 2007. Based on my research and some reliable news, I hold on to the share when it hit RM1 on the first day and eventually fluctuate to a bottom of RM0.78. Today my research, believe and patience have rewarded me, HELP International Corporation Bhd Close at RM1.76 today(Monday, 1 Oct 2007) . That's a 100% return in less than 5 months. My friends like Wong Hon, ShengCui, Jasmine Sim, Sally and En Kiat(remiser at CIMB), must be happy and laughing to the bank now. To Justin, Paul and the rest that didn't take my advise seriously are regretting now with many asking what other stock will give significant return such as HELP. I will attached a copy of my own fundamental report soon on HELP.

Well if you would like to know, be sure to log in my blog regularly. Its not hard to make money of the KL Stock Market but its easy to lose you money too. However with the right knowledge and self discipline couple with good timing, you are bound to make consistent return.
The market its riding on a bull now, if you miss this. The next bull is gonna be atleast 10 year from now. So how many 10 years you have in a life time to make the difference?

Either you want to be a slave to money and make money your slave? Its up to you.

So are you ready invest? and make money grow on trees for you too? Feel free to voice your opinion and question. I will be more than happy to assist you should you be interested in starting to invest yourself.

Being Wealthy isn't just a dream.

Wealth to many of us is merely a dream, something that is impossible to obtain. It's never easy to accumulate a substantial amount of wealth to be consider wealthy. If you have read of stories like those of Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, Tan Sri Robert Kuok, Lee Kah Shing, and other tycoon around, these great enterpreneurs did not inherit their wealth. They are fine example of rags to riches. Its through sheer hardship that they experienced in their early days which makes them what they are today. It's never easy to accumulate wealth sufficient enough to match Robert Kuok networth, or at least to lead a live of financial freedom.

Recent survey show that its not difficult to accumulate wealth but preserving it is one of the toughies act. The Chinese has always believe that wealth never last more than 3 generation. This is especially true in most Chinese family, were the first generation may have accumulated a total wealth of RM10million, divided it equally to 3 of its children. Thus each son/daughter will inherit RM3.333 million each. Assuming that each of the 3 sons/daughters have their own family and further divided the wealth inherited into 3 portion equally, thus each portion will have exactly RM1.111 million(Note that this is already the 3rd generation). If the same were to be repeated, the those in the fourth generation will inherit RM370,000 each portion. This means that the 4th generation will no longer be a millionaire when they inherit the wealth. The scenarios were made with the assumption that inflation is ZERO and each generation does not spend the wealth they inherit. Assuming that the money were to be kept at a license financial institution, either through conventional saving account or fix deposit, with a current FD rate of 3.7% per annum, while inflation is well above 3.8%, the amount of money inherit actually shrink by 0.1% per annum.
Thus the actually amount pass on to the fourth generation might be well below RM200k only. With the growing number of people joining the million dollar club and billion dollar club, the rich and famous are beginning to worry on how they could preserved their wealth and avoid shrinking of wealth for the future generation. Well unless you have a pot of gold which constantly generate wealth like Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong's casino which help generate wealth daily at a unimaginable rate, you should be cracking your head, thinking of how you could ensure that your future generation life a wealth life like you do.

Ok so its all boiled down to wealth preservation. For the rich, wealth preservation comes in many form. Money are usually put intro different investment basket to reduce risk. Properties, Bond, FD, Saving, Stocks, Mutual Fund(Unit Trust) are some of the optional investment vehicle which not only help preserved their wealth but grow it over time too. However please take note that in an investment there will be risk attached with it.The high the return the high the risk and vice versa. For the poor like you and me, we only live on our monthly wage which is bearly sufficient as the cost of living esclate faster than our wage increment. However with prudent wealth management and right mentality you one day join the elite community. I'm not taking about lottery, or gambling in the casino where you can turn into an overnight millionaire but how to make your money work harder than you, and work for you even when you are sleeping or having a game of golf with an old pal.

Kindly take note that I'm not in anyway promoting or associated with any person, product, investment tools used to illustrated my point in the article above. Please make your wise decision with your own intellectual mind and decide whats best for yourself.
Want to be a millionaire? Why not aim higher and be a multi-millionaire instead? Well stay tune as I am gonna unleash a series of write up not only for your reading pleasure but to be practice as well.
