Traffic Jam and Malaysia Boleh

Malaysia is famous for many things, the Petronas Twin Tower, Sepang F1 Circuit, Genting Highland, KL Golden Triangle, FOOD!!! and the list goes on. Not forgetting, the one most important thing of all, TRAFFIC JAM. I'm sure most of you would agree with me on this, especially if you are living in the Klang Valley. Despite the rising fuel price, and government aggressive reduction of fuel subsidy in recent year, the numbers of cars never seems to get lesser, in fact it grows day by day.

The government and their crony see this as an opportunity to make $$$$. Thus they came up with lame excuse to reduce the congestion. Their brilliant idea was to build expressway(highway) at every single corner of the city. However they only manage to reduce the congestion for a short period of time. One good example would the the Sprint Highway Toll Plaza located near. That toll booth would normally be congested before the toll booth and even after paying RM1.60, you wont be spared from the terrible congestion all the way to 1Utama. A typical jam from that toll to 1Utama during peak hours can take up to 60 minute of your precious time which other wise would take only less than 5 minute without the congestion. Maybe its time they start submitting an entry for the Guinness Book of Record, I'm sure The Malaysia's Traffic Jam will be able to make it to the top and make Malaysian proud.

If you have read my previous post entitled It was a black Tuesday, you would notice that even when I uses the Touch & Go card which suppose to mean that i just need to touch the card at the toll booth and proceed driving, hassle free as i wont have to pay cash to the toll operator and wait for my change as well as receipt. However the incident that day force my car to crawl like a turtle.

Two days after that incident, while driving along the Federal Highway from the City Center heading to Shah Alam, I saw a message display on a electronic board which reads: Promosi Smart Tag di Toll Sunway(LDP) hanya untuk Hari ini 24hb April 2008. So i decided to make a detour to get my self one of those little electronic gadget which will enable me to cut those waiting time at the toll booth. It cost me RM120 cash, they only accept cash for this promotion. For the benefit of those who might still be living in the cave and do not know what Touch & Go and Smart Tag, I shall give you a brief introduction.

Touch & GO(T&G): It's a magnetic card which allows to load cash value and function like a debit card with preloaded credit. All you need to do is touch the card at the electronic terminal when you drive pass the toll booth or any other public transport such as the LRT, Monorail, RapidKL Buses.

Smart Tag: An advance electronic device which requires you to insert a touch & go card. The device will actually beam your card information to a wireless electronic terminal strategically places at each toll booth. This will allow you to drive pass the toll booth with out stopping your car, winding down the window and finally touch your T&G card on the electronic terminal (but you need to slow down to like 20km/h)

Life in the Fast lane!!!

See they even come up with a nice tag line: Life in the Fast lane. LOL. Ya right, after toll still have to be stuck in the Jam. The only benefit if that you get to drive pass the toll booth faster than those without Smart Tag. Nice packing eh? So whats in the package?

Tada.... Clockwise starting from top right: SmartTag Unit, Smart Tag Holder, Touch & Go card(RM20 preloaded credit), 9v battery, and a warranty card(1 year only).

Have a read at the brochure and User guide on the right. This promotion is jointly organised by Etiqa(the insurance arm of Maybank)

They even list a benefit which includes RM10,000 worth of Personal Accident Coverage and RM2000 Medical reimbursement.

I've finally decided to invest RM120 to live in the fast lane. Have you invested in one? Although it may not be able to help you cut the queue after the toll, but it certainly can help you to cut the queue before the toll(talking about supremacy on the highway, wahahaha).

Is money everything?

Do we live to eat or eat to live? you still need to eat to continue living, right? If you answer no, then you might as well start starving yourself to death. To live or to eat, you need money.

Life is wonderful, and the best thing you could ever do in life is live it to the fullest. So how do plan to life your life to the fullest? Here are some of the comment people usually give when being ask how they plan to live their life to the fullest:

Travel around the world
Have a nice family
Be with the person they love and care most
Have a nice house

No matter what you plan to do, you still need money, the only difference is some people need more of it and some need less depending on your preferred lifestyle.

Some may say money is not everything. Well that may be true, but only to a certain extend because without money you cant have anything. Like it or not, human greed nature has turn this whole world into a big business conglomerate. In today's enterprising age, even water, human's most basic needs which was once a free commodity cost us a bomb when we consume it. Utility Company like Wessex Water (in the UK) and Puncak Niaga (in Selangor & Kuala Lumpur) earns millions of dollar/ringgit just by supplying water to household.

Well, some of you who are mischievous might say that you can still use water for free when you go to the hotel, shopping center and even at the waterfall. Well let's face reality, you cant be living in a hotel, shopping center or by the waterfall everyday right? Even if you stay at the hotel, the room rate actually includes the utility bill as well. So you cant denial that money is really something important(thought it may not be everything to some of you)

So the topic now is how do you value money? Do share your views, they is no right or wrong.

Happy Shopping =)

Definitely Gang, Maybe Bang and the Conspiracy behind it.

Well as many of you have read about it on Nuffnang Innit, there was a mini blogger gathering last week at the Cineleisure. It was a movie outing initiated by Pammy aka PamSong. A total of 16 participants including myself was in her list for the event click here to see the list.

Here are the details copied from her blog:
Date: 20 April 2008
Day: Sunday
Time: 1:45pm
Location: Cineleisure, Mutiara Damansara
Meeting Point: Foot of staircase (as soon as you pass the entrance into Cathay)
Movie: Definitely, Maybe (Confirm already!)

I arrived a minute late at 1.46pm at the meeting point and none of the participant listed were waiting there. I told myself, wah this people, so punctual ah, I'm one minute late only and they are already gone. Sighhh I tried to walk around to see if I am lucky enough to spot PamSong or Amy. They were the only 2 person I know in the entire list. I walk around like a Soh Chai and there are no where to be seen. sigh. By now, you will be wondering, Charlie's you dunno how to call ah? Well I was smart enough not get their mobile no before the scheduled meet up. So I left the place and went home straight.

I left a comment Pam's blog after that. Pam's reply was:
pamsong said...
ATTN: Charlie – OH NO!!! Aiyo... Cos we were late going up. Many ppl arrived late for the lunch so only Thomas Yap went up at about 2pm to get the tickets. everybody else stopped by McD's when they saw nobody at the contact point. NOOOOO!!! Am so sorry Charlie. We plan again some other time, okay? Many other good movies coming up. =(

OMG dam sad man, somemore I thought I was late and they leave without me. But in actually fact, they were late. She her explaination on why there were late by clicking here. Now I'm wondering if the whole thing was a conspiracy. PamSong, you better organise another event soon.

Free Liquor from Carlsberg

Was at Sheraton Subang Last to attend Carlsberg AGM. Despite my busy schedule, I decided to make a detour over to the hotel because they are giving out free liquor.
Look at those goodie bag from CARLSBERG(dont you wanna know what's inside)
Let me give you a peek(a pack of 6 can beer from Carlsberg)

That's not all, I also get a RM20 beer discount voucher(to be use for the purchase of 1 carton of 24-can pack of Carlsberg Beer)And lastly, 3 pieces of RM10 cash vouchers to shop at GIANT
At the reception, there were free flow of liquor for everyone who attended the event. Now if only they could get some performers or band, it would have been a great party. Sadly its a AGM which suppose to be formal, so free liquor is good enough for those who enjoy drinking.

Not bad for a 20 minute detour right? Now who wants the RM20 Discount Voucher? I actually have 3 set of it to be given away.

Two Mah Lat Lou's outing

After a terrible day, I decided to chill out, so I teman Chien Ping(to see his picture, click on this), and we went shopping at Ikea to buy some home arrangement stuff cause that poor guy needs to clean his room before his dad kick him out of the house. After we are done, our next destination was Tesco, this time its because his parents will be away, so he need to prepare his own meal.

Damn, the feeling of 2 going doing grocceries was weird you know, 2 mah lat lou going out shopping and doing the groceries. eew.. the feeling was gay and talking about it now sounds even more gay
On the brighter side, at least I did not encounter any other unlucky incident for the day. Not unless you consider this gayish outing an unlucky incident.

It was a black Tuesday

Today(or should I say yesterday, since it's already way pass 12) must be my black Tuesday. The day greeted me good morning by making me brave through the terrible traffic. Can you believe it, I was stuck in a jam at the Batu Tiga Toll Plaza, even though I'm using Touch & Go Card. If it wasn't for the jam, I would have reach office in less than 5 minute from the toll plaza, but the stupid jam causes me to lose 3o minute of precious time.

After that, when I reach office, the car park at the main building was FULL. So I have to park at the alternate parking facilities which is about 10 minute walking distance. Damn leg already cramp still have to walk. In my mind, I already started cursing.

As I was about to walk towards the office, I realised that one of my rubber piece for my Sony Ericsson Walkman Earphone is missing. So I walked back to my car and search the whole damn car.wasted about 10 minutes there. But I fail to find the missing piece. I just bought that new set of earphone for less than a month and now its gone.

Later in the evening, it was raining, while driving along the road leading to Kota Damansara, a stupid lorry suddenly drive from the left lane to the right late without giving any signal. I reacted quite fast by hitting the break but as it was raining and the road was rather slippery, my car actually skidded a little. And lorry's exhaust pipe hit my car, causing the left front of my car a little dent. And the lorry driving continue driving like normal and eventually speed away. I didn't chase the idiot as it was raining and there isn't any loud bang, thus I didn't know that it actually hit my car until I check it 30 minutes later. WTH, now need to spend money to knock the car back and repaint. haiz, when you a bad luck, it can really haunt you the whole day. dammit.
Anyone wants to donate and help me with the repair work ?

Celebrate Climate Change Week with Free MOVIE Passes.

The section in grey is copied from YTL website:

In the name of convenience, we have disposable razors, paper towels and plastic cups. Even cameras can be used once and unceremoniously dumped.Closer to home, Malaysians generated 7.34 million tonnes of solid waste in 2005 alone, enough to fill up 42 buildings the size of Malaysia’s twin towers. We are in a critical state. Today, human beings emit 700 tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, every single second. Do nothing and climate change may reach a tipping point beyond which is out of our hands.

And that's the point. It is still in our hands.
Each of us can do our part.
Try to reduce waste and recycle.
Start conserving energy like the precious resource it is.
Rethink the way you travel.

Write to governments to gazette more green lungs and legislate renewable energy. Together, we as global citizens can make a difference, if we start taking action now.

If you want to catch 11th Hour by Leonardo DiCaprio, here is your chance to watch it for free. In an efford to create awareness among the public, YTL Group has generously sponsored a series of public screening for all of us. But there will be a limit, so be sure you register yourself if you want 2 free tickets for you and your date.
The movie will be held at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) from 30 April – 4 May 2008. Click here to sign up for free tickets!

LOT 10, my coolest workplace ever.

Well sorry for the delays people. Been quite caught up with work lately, any some gathering here and there. My RoadWarrior was infected with virus thus causing the entire system to paralyse for the last few days. After anticipating and being patience with me since the last entry, where I told you guys I work at LOT 10 and its the coolest work place in Malaysia, here is where I finally reveal it all:
See the red circle in the picture? Its Lot 10. hahahaha....
Read about The Top 30 companies to work with in Malaysia. The company in which I'm currently with is on the top of the list.

I worked at Lot 10

Yes yes yes, you read it right. I am working at Lot 10. It's the coolest work place in Malaysia. If you want to know why? Be sure you stay tune as I unveiled why my office is the coolest work place in Malaysia. Read all about it in my upcoming post tomorrow night.

Avoid going to KL tonight.

Short Talk: This is not a politically link artical and it certainly does not reflect my political views. This is written mainly to inform fellow Malaysian who rarely reads the newspaper and those who are rather blur.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, is about to see another rally tonight. The rally reportedly to be organised by Parti Keadilan Rakyat(PKR) is to mark the end of Anwar Ibrahim's ban from Politics. Anwar once a deputy prime minister of Malaysia started his reformasi struggle a decade ago after he was sack from the government and UMNO.
Though the planned rally tonight is said to be a peaceful rally, you should try avoiding it at all cost. Because atleast 10,000 people is expected to turn up to celebrate and show their support for Anwar. Personally I think the figure might be even bigger considering opposition big win in the recent election which won them five out of 13 states, most of which are the cash cow of the country.
So if you do not want to end up in a terrible jam down town, avoid it at all cost, cancel or postpone your appointment, leave work early if possible and stay home. If you want to be extra safe, camp at the police station. Cheers =)

A mouse story..

Short Talk: Got this message through an email from my colleague. I found it to be really meaningful and would like to share it with my friends and loyal readers. Enjoy =)
---------------------------------------------------------------

Mouse Story ...........
A mouse
looked through the crack
in the wall
to see the farmer and his wife
open a package.

"What food
might this contain?"
The mouse wondered -
he was devastated
to discover
it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard,
the mouse
proclaimed the warning.

"There is a mousetrap
in the house!
There is a mousetrap
in the house!"

The chicken clucked
and scratched,
raised her head
and said,
"Mr. Mouse,
I can tell
this is a grave concern to you
but it is of no consequence to me.
I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse
turned to the pig
and told him,
"There is a mousetrap
in the house!
There is a mousetrap
in the house!"

The pig sympathized,
but said,
"I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse,
but there is nothing
I can do about it but pray.
Be assured
you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said,
"There is a mousetrap
in the house!
There is a mousetrap
in the house!"

The cow said,
"Wow, Mr. Mouse.
I'm sorry for you,
but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse
returned to the house,
head down and dejected,
to face the farmer's mousetrap-- alone.

That very night
a sound was heard
throughout the house --
like the sound
of a mousetrap
catching its prey.

The farmer's wife
rushed to see
what was caught.
In the darkness,
she did not see
it was a venomous snake
whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake
bit the farmer's wife.
The farmer
rushed her to the hospital
and she returned home
with a fever.
Everyone knows
you treat a fever
with fresh chicken soup,
so the farmer took his hatchet
to the farmyard
for the soup's
main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness
continued,
so friends and neighbors
came to sit with her
around the clock.
To feed them,
the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife
did not get well;
she died.
So many people came
for her funeral,
the farmer
had the cow slaughtered
to provide enough meat
for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all
from his crack in the wall
with great sadness.

So, the next time
you hear someone
is facing a problem
and think it doesn't
concern you,
remember --
when one of us is threatened,
we are all at risk.

We are all involved
in this journey
called life.
We must keep an eye out
for one another
and make an extra effort to
encourage one another.

SEND THIS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER HELPED YOU OUT
AND LET THEM KNOW
HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE.
REMEMBER:
EACH OF US
IS A VITAL THREAD
IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY;
OUR LIVES
ARE WOVEN TOGETHER
FOR A REASON.

One of the best things
to hold onto in this world
is a friend.
